The Canton of Bern is not only the seat of federal politics, but also one of the most diverse cantons in Switzerland \u2013 geographically, culturally, and socially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Political center with a distance from the hectic pace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the location of the Federal Parliament Building, Bern is at the center of Switzerland <a href=\"https:\/\/schweiz.blog\/en_za\/category\/policy\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"2726\">Politics<\/a>. Nevertheless, the political style differs noticeably from that of more urban cantons. Decisions often seem more deliberate, processes slower \u2013 but in return, they are stable and consensus-oriented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This attitude also shapes the population: matter-of-fact, reserved, often skeptical of rapid changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regional diversity as a strength<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hardly any other canton combines so many different habitats:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The city <a href=\"https:\/\/schweiz.blog\/en_za\/category\/canton-of-bern\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"3102\">Bern<\/a> with administration and culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Swiss Plateau with agriculture and industry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Bernese Oberland with its tourism and alpine challenges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This diversity brings opportunities, but also tensions between the center and the periphery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economy off the headlines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/schweiz.blog\/en_za\/category\/canton-of-bern\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"3102\">Canton of Bern<\/a> is less economically noisy than<a href=\"https:\/\/schweiz.blog\/en_za\/tag\/kanton-zuerich\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"3127\"> Zurich<\/a>, but stable. Administration, healthcare, mechanical engineering, agriculture and tourism form the backbone. Many regions consciously focus on sustainable development instead of rapid growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social cohesion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In comparison to urban cantons, social cohesion is considered to be higher in the <a href=\"https:\/\/schweiz.blog\/en_za\/category\/canton-of-bern\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"3102\">Canton of Bern<\/a> as high. Clubs, communities, and regional identity play an important role.
