What does franchise mean?

The franchise is the amount you paid for by themselves per year, before the health insurance company covers the costs.

Example:
Franchise 2,500 CHF → you pay the first 2,500 CHF yourself.


What franchise models are there?

The following options are available to you in basic health insurance:

  • 300 CHF (deepest franchise)
  • 500 CHF
  • 1,000 CHF
  • 1,500 CHF
  • 2,000 CHF
  • 2,500 CHF (highest franchise)

There are cheaper models for children.


How does the deductible work?

Once you have reached your deductible, the health insurance company will take over. 90 % of the costs.
You only pay 10 % Excess, maximum 700 CHF per year.


Which franchise should I choose?

1. High franchise (CHF 2,500)

Useful if:

  • you rarely go to the doctor
  • you are healthy
  • you want to save money on the premium

2. Deep franchise (300 CHF)

Useful if:

  • you often need medical services
  • you are chronically ill
  • you have scheduled treatments

When is it worthwhile to switch franchises?

Only Possible once a year – each until November 30th.
